Chinese President Xi Jinping and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko called for a ceasefire and political settlement to the Ukraine conflict during their meeting in Beijing on Wednesday. Both leaders expressed their deep concern about the conflict and their interest in establishing peace in Ukraine. The meeting also saw the two countries sign cooperation agreements in agriculture, customs enforcement, and sports, among other areas. China's recent peace proposal for Ukraine, which calls for the respect of territorial integrity, was endorsed by Lukashenko during the meeting. China has maintained that it is a neutral party in the conflict and has accused the US and NATO of provoking the conflict. Meanwhile, Lukashenko's government has allowed Belarusian territory to be used as a staging ground for the invasion of Ukraine, leading to its isolation in Europe, where it faces sanctions from the European Union.
